I could feel my temper getting very frayed in work towards the end of last week. This was partially because I feel I've lost direction with work recently (more on that later perhaps), but largely as a result of being cooped up in an early 70s office block with lots of glass but no air-conditioning other than opening the windows to allow in the traffic fumes and noise.

The heat today hasn't yet reached the same heights, so I'm still feeling fairly relaxed from the weekend. It was, as others have observed, stonkingly hot but I wasn't in the glass box and quite enjoyed it.

Saturday was started with a lie in, followed by a trip into town for fabriccy bits for P's Omega kit and some bits she's making for pther people. While there we thought we'd take a mooch round Debenhams, as we'd been given some gift cards for there the previous weekend. A little while later, we'd spotted a rather nice mirror that will look good in the hall and a fairly stylish uplighter for the living room - both in the sale. At this point we realised that we'd lift all the bits of gift plastic at home, so checked opening times and duration of sale and promised ourselves to return in more organised fashion. In a continuing wander round the rest of the store, we ended up in the Game franchise. Sale on there as well. 6 PC games of not too venerable vintage for £20 later, we have a couple for each of us and a couple of puzzle/strategy type things to play together (something we've discovered we enjoy). A side trip to Tesco's for charcoal and meat and home to tidy up, unsure when the horde would descend or how many there would be.

In the middle of getting the flat presentable the guests start arriving - typical. A trickle in the late afternoon became a sudden influx in the early evening, several of them from Tewkesbury. Gareth & Caroline arrived with news of [livejournal.com profile] kheeram Dave's dance floor injuries and we ended up with some 15 people sat mostly in the garden charring meat and consuming large quantities of alcohol. The non-larpers were rescued from the sea of froth shortly after dusk and non-larp conversations continued inside when it got too cold and the usual suspects rejoined us. A very pleasant evening all in all. Thank you to those who came.

Sunday was a leisurely wakening and lunch at the Goose with survivors Andy and Maddy, [livejournal.com profile] delvy and Steph, plus [livejournal.com profile] hepstar and [livejournal.com profile] robcee with whom the latter had stayed. Excellent company and a much refreshed Paul afterwards.

Cue a trip back to Debenhams - with gift cards this time to buy mirror and order uplighter (only 8 people after this one, there were 55 orders for a slightly different version). Then a quiet evening staying out of the heat, watching tv, playing Atomica on the pc and firing up the barbecue to do stuffed mushrooms and tuna steaks for supper (and cook some of the sausage mountain we'd been left with for use making lunches).

Refreshed and revitalised I returned to work - I've coped ok so far, but the heat is rising, there is little breeze in here and road/building works of some description opposite. The pressure is on in the cooker.
