Spent a little time on Saturday in the Register Office at Quakers Friars in the middle of Bristol. It's a nice old medieval building (with an "unfortunate" Georgian extension), about the only one that survived the World War II bombing raid that destroyed the medieval town centre. It's always struck me as a fine use for about the oldest building in the City that it houses the familial records and is the main venue for civil weddings in the area.

But I digress. We turned up a little early for our appointment and were met by a very nice lady. Mary proceeded to check all our documents and ask us both the same set of simple questions about each of us. This would have given P the opportunity to crib my answers, if she hadn't already known the details - not much of an anti-bigamy check, despite the prominent notices about penalties for "Making A False Declaration".

We're in the record system now. Notice of our intent to marry are posted at said office for the next 15 days, after which an "Authority to Marry" will be forwarded to Chelmsford, in which district the deed will occur.

Much of the rest of the weekend was then spent perusing various brochures from travel agents (mostly by P, I must admit) as we narrowed down honeymoon options. We're more or less agreed on a fortnight in Canada. The other main contender was two weeks spent a week each in parts of Scandinavia, which we've decided we can do as two (or more) separate holidays over the coming years.

A brief spell of painting on Sunday has seen one wall of the livign room go Bokhara Red. Second coat this evening, then we re-arrange the furniture again to do the rest of it later in the week.
