pax_draconis on the not thinking about certain things too much on the commute in.
We left the house at the the usual time of about five before eight yesterday morning. Turned at the little roundabout to head down through Parkway and the queue was in sight (we normally have to go about halfway through the Parkway back road before reaching it). So carried on round the roundabout and out to the Winterbourne Road. Traffic. Followed it down to the next roundabout and decided to bugger that for a game of soldiers. Went home, rang work to let them know I'd be late in and watched an episode of B5 (we're up to Racing Mars halfway through season 4).
Left the house again at a quarter after nine. Still massive queues on both roads. Decided we couldn't postpone any longer so tried nipping up to Aztec West and down the A38 from there. Reasonable drive in ensued, taking about an hour. Found out later in the day that there'd been an accident on the road just past our normal route about 10 minutes before we left, resulting in its closure and a massive backlog. All seemed very paltry when I learned that a young woman had been killed trying to cross the road. As I said, I'm with Ser A on this.
Today, left at the normal time. Took twenty minutes to get through Parkway and the same again to get to Abbey Wood. This should take less than 10/15 even on the commute. This time it was just jammed with huge numbers of cars trying to get into the MoD site. Total trip one hour twenty. I could cycle it in that.
