LJ Interests meme results

  1. blake's 7:
Seminal tv Science Fiction (see below). Interesting three-dimensional characters at the core of it. Emotionally involving.
  2. coffee:
    Java
    Jamaican Blue Mountain
    Whittard's Guatemalan Elephant.
    Buzz!
  3. freeform games:
I enjoy being people other than myself. This end of the spectrum of games where I can do so is where I'm given a character description, a starting situation and a set of things the character is initially seeking to achieve. Whether it's a 12th Century mage in the excellent NWO games (see below) or a disguised Butch Cassidy in the last November weekend game I generally get a great deal of satisfaction.
  4. grand design:
Not sure what to say here. I didn't really enjoy the couple of events I played, but that was down to the character I'd designed rather than the game itself. I could see people having enormous fun all around me, but being a grumpy tank proved not to be my thing.
  5. kisses:
    Yes please.
  6. medieval history:
A fascinating period and that in which lived many of the giants on whose shoulders the modern world stands.
  7. new world order games:
The last shall be as good as the first, inshallah.
  8. reading:
I've been reading anything and everything since I was about three. My parents have an infamous photograph of me outside a chippy in West Wales happily consuming the deep-fried goodness while perusing a discarded newspaper on the ground which had wrapped somebody else's.
  9. science fiction:
Release and experiencing the world through different eyes again. The best SF focusses on the characters. The alien worlds, time travel and other such are a means to explore human reactions to new situations.
  10. women:
Endlessly fascinating. Never fully understandable. I'm privileged in my friendships with so many and in particular in the one who was mug enough to marry me.

Yep! it's about twenty years. My God, how time flies. Congratulations on getting wed. Do you keep in touch with any of the old (no pun intended) crew?

None from the Drama side, except the very occasional contact with Nick Strong. I did four years worth of professional techie, then decided I needed a decent income and a social life.

Only one I'm in any regular contact with is Helen Froud and that's intermittent. She's divorced with three kids and running corporate services for the Western Isles council.

I met Pete Crane, Debbie Clarke, Rhod Punter, Paul Bachelor and Martin Griffith last year. I was supposed to meet some of them on Monday, but due to other things, it got postponed. I'm now an IT teacher in a small primary school in North London, as I wanted a decent income too, and a decent amount of time off to make music. I did some writing for Welsh theatre back in the nineties, but sort of got pulled back to music again.

*Nods*

I headed in the IT direction to start with. Did an MSc at what was then Bristol Poly and then got a job with them. Drifted into general university admin with UWE, then a planning role (funding/student numbers/fees) at Bristol Uni. Start a new job as Head of Planning at Luton in January and we're currently househunting in Beds.

Oh, I forgot. I get the odd email from Naida, who's now in New Zealand and a lot happier in a sunnier climate. The main niggle just before she left was that Kev had taken the job there, rather than the one in Australia so she had to marry him to get in. Seems to be getting on ok.

That's good to hear. The last time I heard about Naida was she was living tucked away in the Welsh hills with Kev. Good luck with the house hunting. The prices may be slightly more than they are in Bristol!
