England friendly matches at Old Trafford, when you're trying to get to a wedding near Manchester Airport.

As soon as we crossed the border into Cheshire the M6 was jammed. There followed some of the worst and most selfish driving I have ever seen. People with England football shirts on, or Jamaican flags displayed in their cars, heading up the hard shoulder before Knutsford Services rather than waiting in the queue. Some of them were stopped by a lorry driver just behind us who decided to plant himself just far enough across the hard shoulder line that they couldn't pass him. There were then people driving straight through the services to try and gain a few places and down the hard shoulder on the other side to go off at J19. A brief interlude of sanity was forced by a plice landrover cruising up the hard shoulder at 5 mph, but as soon as he pulled off they were at it again. All this of course, causing more delays by those of us being honest as they all tried to pull back onto the main carriageway. The final bit of insanity was an idiot in a 4*4 who tried overtaking along the A556 (which has strictly no overtaking double white lines down it) with traffic heading in the other direction at roughly 50 mph.

We'd allowed four hours for a journey the AA website said should take less than three. It ended up being over five and we got there just in time to be handed a glass of post-ceremony bubbly. Still. Emma looked stunning. Andy looked chuffed to bits (as he had every right to be) and the rest of the day and evening was spent in excellent company.

Today's gripe is that we still haven't received our tickets for the GP next weekend. I've spent a fair bit of the morning on hold to various bodies. The tickets were eventually tracked down to the Patchway delivery office in Bristol who tried to deliver them to our old address two weeks ago ffs! We've got a redirection paid for, which they know about (other stuff is reaching us). Formal complaint has been made (after half an hour trying to get hold of their number only to find they'd quit for the day and then another half hour looking for the central post office number). They'll have a rollicking from customer service waiting on email when they get in and will have another one from me mid-morning.
Top Gear is out of commission for the duration...
