Back in work today. Operating at probably 95% fitness and 75% energy levels.

Went down with some lurgy or other over the Sunday morning before last. This was a shame as I was on post at Becketts on the International Circuit with the Aston Martin Owners Club in action and it was quite entertaining. I had to tell Peter G at lunchtime that I wasn't fit to stay on. I then spent the rest of the afternoon in the car with the shivers, trying to regulate my temperature by driving between patches of sun and shade, threw up at one point and made Penny drive me home rather than staying to watch the Brazilian GP. Another shame as it seems to have been a good race. Got home just in time to see Button interviewed on the Beeb.

I then took Monday and Tuesday of last week off sick and feeling somewhat fluey. I came back in Weds morning, feeling somewhat better. In hindsight this was a mistake. I was probably at about 75% fitness and 50% energy. That reservoir of energy was used up very quickly and I left again early afternoon - ending up off on Thursday/Friday as well.

By Friday evening I was feeling more myself but decided it was best not to go and marshal the 6-hours relay race on Saturday. So, I waved Penny off on Sat am, lay in bed for a few hours and then she rang me to suggest I go in to help out in Race Control. I got there about half an hour after the race started. She showed me how to use the incident logger and I spent the next five and half hours trying to listen to the incoming radio calls and record what was going on. There's an awful lot of other verbal traffic in RC and it can be quite hard to concentrate on the bits you need to hear - particularly when you have drivers and team managers coming up to discuss penalties with the clerk of the course. Got the hang of it reasonably quickly and I think I did ok. It's a very different view of things up there, which I think all of us who spend time on the bank should see at least once.
