In fact a higly enjoyable weekend in the main. Left me feeling somewhat drowsy now I'm back at work though.

Saturday
A large amount of cleaning, tidying, sorting out and cooking in perparation for a good evening's murder mystery. With imbalance of genders I ended up playing "Dame Agatha Eiderdown", a cross between Bertie Wooster's numerous Aunts and Lady Bracknell. One of Pen's black skirts, a fur stole loaned by Rosie and a pair of my Nana's marquesite ear-rings. Much fun had by the nine of us. Wonderful food from Penny and I didn't nearly drop our god-daughter headfirst onto the floor - I caught her just in time after she wriggled off my lap.

Sunday
Mostly spent feeling a little fragile, but with a couple of games of Starship Catan between us before heading round to [livejournal.com profile] coallump and [livejournal.com profile] marktoy's for the bigger version, a go at Union Pacific and more chicken than you could shake a fork at.

Monday
Both of us had taken the day off as it was my birthday (and decidedly not the gloomiest day of the year, despite what certain news reports have claimed). A lazy day, punctuated with a trip to Cribbs to buy a new mattress and pick up brochures and guidebooks for Australia. We've decided we're definitely going to visit my sister in Melbourne in the Autumn, particularly seeing as her birthday phonecall to me included the news that she's becoming an Australian citizen tomorrow (on Australia Day), so is pretty much permanently over there now.

Generally the idea is to fly out to Singapore/Kuala Lumpur/somewhere for the last weekend of September, then on to Melbourne on the Mon/Tues for a week. Spend some time with Clare and head somewhere else, probably Cairns/the WhitSundays or somewhere else on the Great Barrier Reef, for another week, for a total of nearly three weeks most likely. I've spent some of today surfing teh intraweb-net for possibilities. If we do head for the reef, we're considering taking the PADI Open Water Diver course before we go. We could do it out there, but don't fancy spending of couple of days holiday sat in a classroom.

Quite a lot of thinking and researching to do, but I've checked that it's all fine with work to take that much time at that point.

Mat and I did the PADI open water before we went on honeymoon - I can get you details this evening of the guy that trained us if you want, he was very good. It cost just over £200 each, and was well worth the cost.

That'd be very useful, Liz. Thanks

Found their website - it should have the info you need:

The guy that trained us in Tony Powell, his email is tpdiving@btopenworld.com. They meet at Kingswood sports centre on Sunday evenings, and I think the course took us about 6 sessions, plus the qualifying dives at Stoney Cove in Leicestershire. We did those in November, and it was *** freezing, but definitely worth it to be able to dive straightaway in the Maldives when we went!
