Now Done the Deed.

We spent nearly two hours on an extended lunchbreak at the travel agents, perusing the bill of fare they provided, making some adjustments and booking. The trip is now

29th Sept to Singapore overnight, stay for 3. Then on to Melbourne on the Sunday, again overnight - we'll arrive very early, but Clare's used to night shifts so that shouldn't be a problem. 6 nights with little sis later, fly to Cairns as first thought. We've not booked in to any diving trips and will probably sort that once we're there. Shuttle down to Brisbane to fly over to Fiji and stay in a relaxing small island hotel (300m off the main island according to the brochure) before heading back via Sidney airport on 21st. Gives us a weekend to recover from jet lag - almost certainly nowhere near enough, but it will have to do.

Now for an approach to the bank of Mum and Dad.

I assume you know this already, but get to the airport well in advance of your flight, dress smartly, and ask politely for an upgrade. Failing that, if you're there early enough, you might be able to snag an emergency exit seat. Bulkhead seats are sometimes roomy too, but are often taken by families with small chiddlers.

What airline are you flying with?

More details came through over the weekend. Quantas to Singapore, to Melbourne, to Cairns and I think to Brisbane where we swap to South Pacific (or is it Pacific Airlines, I don't remember at present) to Fiji and back to Brisbane. BA back to home.

*grin* It does take stupid amounts of time doesn't it? I'd highly recommend Mission Beach - there's an amazing treehouse you can stay in - it's not the height of flash, but it was about $12 per night and there were loads of games! The Whitsundays are beautiful. I wouldn't bother about Fraser Island - it's just full of drunk backpackers. If you've got a spare 3 days and fancied being a jackaroo - there's a place called Myella which is my favourite place in the world, but it is in the middle of nowehere - 300 miles west of Rockhampton... (or something like that!)
